Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The National Police`s leadership has decided to discharge Commissioner General Susno Duadji from his position as head of the force`s criminal investigation department (Kabareskrim), a spokesman said.

"The decision is part of a routine personnel shakeup at the National Police Headquarters," Insp Gen Nanan Soekarna, head of the National Police`s public information division, said here Tuesday night.

Duadji would be replaced by Insp Gen Ito Sumardi Djunisanyoto who had so far served as coordinator of the National Police Chief`s staff of senior advisers.

Soekarna said Duadji was among 25 police officers the National Police leadership had decided to transfer to new positions. They consisted of 16 high-ranking and nine middle-ranking officers.

"Duadji belongs to the high-ranking officers` group," Soekarna said, adding the former chief detective`s new status would be that of "suspended senior officer."

He said Duadji`s discharge was decided at a meeting of the police`s Senior Officers Policy and Ranking Council (Wanjakti) and based on a number of considerations, including President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono`s call for the repositioning of the country`s law enforcing institutions.
