Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Din Syamsuddin , chairman of Islamic organization Muhammadiyah, has called on the people to help guard the ongoing legal and political processes to settle the Bank Century case.
"I am calling on and encourage civil society members and all of the people to guard these processes because if the case is not solved it will become a bad precedent and put an historic stigma on the nation`s life," he told reporters after attending an Idul Adha mass prayer service here on Friday.
He said the Bank Century case must be uncovered and exposed, and the Indonesian people should work hand-in-hand to see to it that it happened.
Din Syamsuddin said that the disbursement of a bailout amounting to Rp6.7 trillion for Bank Century, now Bank Mutiara, must be exposed and the flows of the funds must be made clear.
He said the rumors circulating among the public of late that the funds had been channeled to a certain political party and to certain officials must be made clear.
"There is no other way to explain all this clearly other than through legal channels. Therefore, the Bank Century case must be solved through a legal channel," the Muhammadiyah chairman said.
About the use of the House of Representatives (DPR)`s right of inquiry on the Bank Century case, Din Syamsuddin the House`s action was also important and must be supported by all sides because it was a political approach that could help solve it.
But he warned that the process of solving the problem through a House inquiry should be made seriously. It should not merely be lip service nor should it peter out on the way before achieving anything.(*)
