Kendari (ANTARA News) -- On the occasion of World AIDS Day 2009, the Southeast Sulawesi provincial administration held a parade carrying a thousand torches in Kendari city Monday night.

Chief organizer Marzuki Hanafi said each of the participants will carry a torch and joins a parade to several points in the city.

"The torches are a symbol of our concern about the increasing spread of HIV/AIDS. The torches also symboilized our commitment to combat the deadly disease," Marzuki said on Monday.

Close to midnight, a meditation will be held on the occasion of World AIDS Day on December 1 also in the presence of a number of Southeast Sulawesi high-ranking officials.(*)
