Bogor (ANTARA News) - Some Catholics and inter-faith charity agencies welcomed the new year by holding joint inter-faith prayers on behalf of former President Abdurrahman Wahid at the Cathedral,  Bogor, West Java, Thursday (31/12) .

Mgr Michael Angkur, leader of Catholics of Bogor City, Friday said the prayers were followed by other interfaith leaders H. Zaenal Abidin representing Muslims, Darwin Darwaman from Protestants, Johan Freinky of Buddha, I Wayan Suastika for Hindus, and Thung Uh Tjong of follows of Confucianism.

The Interfaith congregation community in Bogor has an institutionalized friendship and communication medium known as Basolia.

Basolia has many activities related to human enlightenment through the strengthening of tolerance in religious life, building  tradition of mutual respect for diversity and difference in beliefs to initiate social activities that benefit the community.

Wahid's death is a great loss for the Basolia activists, because during his life he has set a lot of examples and inspirations for harmonious relations among religious believers. It is also encouraging the Basolia and the Cathedral  to hold  joint prayers.(*)
