Ciamis, W Java (ANTARA News) - Thirty four houses in Sindangjaya hamlet, Sandingtaman village, Panjalu subdistrict, Ciamis regency, West Java, had been swept by a whirlwind on Sunday at 2 p.m local time.

Sindangjaya hamlet chief Aos said some 34 houses were seriously damaged by the whirlwind and the occupants had to evacuate and stayed with their relatives in the same village.

He said that the whirlwind was coupled with heavy rains, but there were no fatalities.   Some of the houses were not only swept by the strong wind and storm but also damaged by falling trees.

A villager, Jono (40, whose home was practically flattened by the disaster, said this is the very first such disaster on Sindangjaya.

He said residents rushed out of their houses at the first sign of the disaster, because their homes would sooner or later be swept by the whirlwind and storm.A total of 150 people had lost their homes and now staying with their relatives.(*)
