DTI asks govt to revise its rice price

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Farmers Council (DTI) has asked the government to revise its purchase price (HPP) of unhulled rice which this year only increased 10 percent.
DTI Chairman Ferry Juliantono said here on Wednesday that the 10 percent increase in the HPP for rice and unhusked rice would not have any impact on improving the welfare of farmers.
After all, the prices of agricultural production means have previously increased following the increase in the fuel oil prices sometime in the past, he said.
"Therefore, we ask the government to immediately revise Presidential Instruction No. 7 / 2009 on Rice for 2010," Juliantono said.
The government has raised the HPP for rice and unhusked rice effective as of January 1, 2010 after the issuance of the presidential instruction no. 2/2009 on December 29 on the policies regarding rice.
Based on the presidential instruction the government purchasing prices were increase by 10 percent for harvest dry rice (GKP) at the farmers` level, for GKP at the hulling level, for dry unhulled husked (GKG) at state-owned logistics agency or Bulog`s warehouses and for rice at Bulog`s warehouses.
With the increase, the price of GKP at the farmers` level rose from Rp2.400 per kg to Rp2.640 per kg and from Rp2,440 per kg to Rp2,685 per kg at the hulling level.
The price of GKG was raised to Rp3,300 per kg from Rp3,000 per kg at the hulling level, from Rp3,040 per kg to Rp3,350 per kg at the Bulog`s warehouse and HPP for rice at Bulog`s warehouses from Rp,600 per kg to Rp5,060 per kg.(*)Editor: Aditia Maruli
