Customs foil smuggling of daily necessaries from Malaysia

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Tarakan customs personnel, East Kalimantan, foiled an attempted smuggling of various daily needs from Tawau, Malaysia.
Spokesperson for the Customs Directorate General of the Ministry of Finance Evi Suhartantyo said in Jakarta Monday, the customs personnel using patrol boat BC-15024 managed to intercept and arrest the smugglers using KM Sartika I.
"The customs personnel intercepted and arrested KM Sartika I in Tanjung Selor waters, East Kalimantan on Sunday at 5 p.m local time," she said.
KM Sartika I was carrying imported basic necessaries form Tawau pretending the cargo was inter-insular shipment from Nunukan and Sei Nyamuk.
"The state would have suffered a loss of hundreds of millions of rupiah," Evi said.
Earlier, Binjai customs personnel of North Sumatra also raided an alcoholic beverage producing factory in Binjai. The illegal factory was located at Jalan Lincun..
"The customs officers seized 251 cartons containing 6,210 bottles of alcoholic drinks of different fake brands," Evi said.
They also seized 12 drums of alcoholic drinks each containing 180 liters, 600 sacks of empty bottles, five missing tanks, 400 sets of packing carton, and two cartons of labels.
"The state suffered a loss of Rp 100 million from the illegal enterprise," Evi added.(*)Editor: Jafar M Sidik
