Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The associate chairman of the ruling Democrat Party, Anas Urbaningrum, believed that the rallies to be held on Thursday were aimed at unseating President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
"Indeed some intend to do so. It can be seen clearly in the field," he said here on Wednesday.
He said demonstrations are common in a democratic country and therefore they should proceed according to the regulations and norms of democracy and must not be used for purposes against the norms.
"Some participants indeed tend to be undemocratic. That is very clear. How could they say the government has failed while it has worked for just 100 days," he said.
He said President Yudhoyono`s first 100 day program could not be used to judge if he was successful or not because the program was a mere an initial step of the government`s program for the next five years.
"Moreover the first 100 day programs in all ministries are going well. So how could they totalling only thousands ask for a vote of no confidence against the government elected democratically by more than 70 million voters. That certainly runs against democracy," he said.
He said democracy would be healthy, mature and useful for the people in Indonesia if it was practiced constitutionally and not based upon self-interest.
"If self-interests control its implementation it will fall into anarchism, which is the hope of those who are insane. That is obvioulsy a disease and a threat on our democracy," he said.
Thousands of people plan to take to the street on Thursday to criticize President Yudhoyono`s performance in the first 100 days of his administration.(*)Editor: B Kunto Wibisono
