Pekalongan (ANTARA News) - A total of 85 pct of 631 Indonesian domestic helpers (TKI) from Pekalongan regency, Central Java, work as ordinary housemaids and 15 others formal workers.

Head of Workers Placement of the Pekalongan Social, Manpower, and Transmigration Agency Ikbal Naser said here Monday the still high rate of TKIs working as domestic helpers opened up opportunities for violence.

"Many TKIs working overseas still have no special skills causing many cases of violence by their employers. But to reduce the number of such cases, we will try to hold training for prospective TKIs," he said.

"Their employers are therefore expected to become more tolerable, and violence would become less frequent," he said.(*)
