Tokyo (ANTARA News/Asia Pulse) - After months of negotiations with
two U.S. carriers, Japan Airlines Corp. (TSE:9205) said Tuesday that it
will strengthen its existing partnership with American Airlines Inc., the
result of JAL Chairman Kazuo Inamori's reluctance to break a long-standing
alliance.
The government-backed Enterprise Turnaround Initiative Corp. of
Japan and the Transport Ministry, both of which had called for JAL to tie
up with Delta Air Lines Inc. instead, have given their blessing to the decision.
The Japanese carrier is now undergoing bankruptcy restructuring
with the ETIC as administrator. JAL and American are both members of the
oneworld alliance, while Delta is part of the SkyTeam group.
