Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will soon propose to the House a name for the Bank Indonesia (BI) governor`s post which was left vacant by Boediono (now vice president) a year ago.

Presidential spokesman Julian Aldrian Pasha said here on Wednesday the name of the would-be governor of the central bank was now in the final process for submission to the House of Representatives (DPR).

"The process of naming the would BI governor is now being finalized. It means that the name is being considered carefully," he added.

He said the position of BI governor was very crucial so that the person who would be
named to fill the position should be considered carefully.

"The position is important but what is more important is the decision to name a person.

This is because the post has been vacant for one year," he said.

He said that if the process had been finalized, a letter would be sent to the DPR.
Asked whether the president was comfortable with the present acting BI governor, Darmin Nasution, Julian refused to comment.

He said the details about the would-be BI governor would be explained by the chief economic minister.

Previously, Arif Budimanta, a member of Commission XI of the House in charge of financial affairs and a politician of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), had asked the president to propose a name for the BI governor`s post.

The BI governor`s vacant post needed to be filled soon in order that the monetary stability and the banking world in Indonesia could be maintained.

"The post has been vacant for one year while it is very important to maintain monetary stability," Arif said.

He said that at least the would-be candidate should meet three criteria, namely good knowledge of fiscal and monetary affairs, good track record and tested integrity.
