Temanggung, Central Java (ANTARA News) - A group of local residents rallied at Temanggung`s grass square on Thursday to express sympathy for former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chief Antasari Azhar as he was facing sentencing in a Jakarta court in a murder case.

A spokesman of the crowd, grouped in the Temanggung Community Alliance, said they hoped Antasari would be acquitted of the charges over the murder of businessman Nasruddin Zulkarnaen.

He said Antasari was the victim of a "criminilazation" plot involving people who resented his actions in fighting corruption.

The demonstrators distributed leaflets calling on the public to pray for Antasari`s acquittal, and carried posters that among other things read "Free Antasari, victim of a framing plot", "Antasari is not a killer of humans but of the state`s rats."

In an allegorical reference to Antasari`s ordeal, a demonstrator personifying the former graft fighter was dragged along in chains by two activists dressed like law officers.

Another activist carrying a string of prayer beads kept calling for Antasari`s release while a car covered in Antasari`s pictures stood by. (*)
