Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Former anti-graft chief Antasari Azhar has signed his appeal against the sentence of 18 years in prison meted out by the South Jakarta district court on Thursday, his lawyer said.

"Pak (Mr) Antasari has agreed to sign the authorization letter to appeal," the lawyer, Juniver Girsang, said at the Jakarta police headquarters here on Friday.

He said he would soon submit the appeal as he has already discussed it with Antasari regarding the move.

He said he would prepare the documents for it and discuss them with other lawyers in the team.

The South Jakarta district court sentenced Antasari to 18 years in prison for involvement in the plot to kill director of PT Putra Rajawali Banjaran, Nasruddin Zulkarnaen.

After the verdict was read Antasari said he respected the court`s ruling but would appeal the sentence.

He said the ruling was unusual because in making it judges did not quote facts unveiled during the sessions and did not give arguments as courts usually do.(*)
