Bandung (ANTARA News) - Vice President Boediono on Wednesday visited a landslide-affected area at Tenjolaya village, Pasirjambu subdistrict in Bandung district.

The vice president on the visit was accompanied by West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan and a number of National Disaster Management Agency (BNPG) officials.

From Bandung`s Husein Sastranegara airport, the vice president and his entourage took a helicopter to fly to the disaster area because the road leading to the location was blocked.

Land communications in the region including the road to the affected village had been cut off by landslides that had been triggered by torrential rains on Tuesday morning.

"The vice president and his entourage had to travel to the area by helicopter from Husein Sastranegara airport because the road to the location was cut off," West Java provincial administration spokesman Iip Hidayat said.

Before leaving for the landslide-affected area, Governor Heryawan told the vice president about the chronology of the landslide which had buried a lot of houses and local residents.

The landslide had hit at least 50 houses and killed at least 70 people at a tea plantation in Pasir Jambu subdistrict.

Rescue workers are at present still working hard to find the victims in the landslide mud.(*)
