Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Coordinating Minister for the People`s Welfare Agung Laksono who is also a Golkar Party executive has denied rumors he had come under pressure from the government over his party`s position on the Bank Century case.
Golkar representatives in the House of Representatives` Bank Century Inquiry Committee in their final conclusion last Tuesday (Feb 23) had stated the government`s decision to bail out the troubled bank was a mistake and Vice President Boediono, a former Bank Indonesia (BI) governor, and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani were among those responsible for making the decision.
"There is no pressure," Agung said briefly here on Thursday before attending a meeting with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and the chairmen of People`s Consultative Assembly at the presidential palace.
He said the president had never discussed the Golkar Party`s position on the Bank Century case after last Tuesday`s (Feb 23) final conclusion from all faction at the inquiry committee.
Golkar Party chairman Aburizal Bakrie had so far not instructed him to withdraw from the cabinet, he said.
Agung emphasized that Golkar had no intention to leave the coalition. The party, he said, was sticking to its initial commitment to support the government under President Yudhoyono until 2014.
"Aburizal Bakrie told me there will be no effort by Golkar to impeach the president or to leave the coalition," he said.
About the possibility of the president eventually reshuffling the cabinet, Agung said it was entirely up to the president to do or not to do so. "It is the president`s prerogative," he said. (*)
