Tokyo (ANTARA News/Asia Pulse) - Japan Airlines Corp.'s passenger revenue plunged in the April-December period, contributing to dismal earnings and underscoring the challenges faced by the beleaguered carrier in turning operations around.
In its first earnings release since filing for bankruptcy protection last month, the airline on Friday reported a 177.9 billion yen (US$2 billion) group net loss for the nine months ended December 31 -- its worst-ever red ink for that period as well as for a full year.
Sales fell 27 per cent on the year to 1.14 trillion yen. Overall passenger revenue from international flights tumbled 41 per cent to 336.3 billion yen on an 8 per cent decline in customer traffic and falling per-customer revenue.
