Tokyo (ANTARA News/Asia Pulse) - Japan's Nihon Kagaku Sangyo Co. (TSE:4094) is making plans to begin mass production of lithium ion battery materials for automobiles.
The midsize chemical manufacturer has improved lithium nickel oxide, which is used as a positive electrode material in mobile phone batteries, and is also developing a material that combines nickel, cobalt and manganese. It recently began shipping samples of both to battery makers for use in vehicle batteries.
Nihon Kagaku has also purchased land for a new plant in Fukushima Prefecture. Production scale and start time have yet to be determined, but plans are to be solidified by the first half of fiscal 2010.
