Jakarta (ANTARA News) - House Speaker Marzuki Alie said he did not violate the rules and regulations of the House of Representatives (DPR) in chairing the plenary session on Tuesday.

"The plenum, as I said at the opening, has two agendas," he told newsmen at the parliament building here on Tuesday.

The first agenda was inaugurating new House deputy speaker Taufik Kurniawan and the second was presentation of the final result of investigation by the House Century Bank Inquiry Committee.

"The two agendas have been carried out. So as there was no other agendas I closed the meeting," he said.

Marzuki said that the plenum did not issue a decision with regard to the committee`s report, which is scheduled on Wednesday.

He said the meeting did not end in a deadlock. "Everything went according to the schedule set before. If it ended in a deadlock it means it gave no result. The fact is the meeting has finished the two agendas that have been set before," he said.

Regarding the chaos that happened at the meeting Marzuki said he deplored it. He said it happened because DPR members were not orderly.

"Everyone wanted to speak. Together they pushed the buttons of their microphones at the same and therefore the system broke down," he said.

He said microphones would stop functioning if four members pushed them at the same time.

Marzuki said he should not have been blamed for the failure of the system. "That is not the business of the House Speaker," he said.

The chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB) faction, Marwan Djafar, said that technically House Speaker Marzuki Alie was not wrong when he concluded the session.

"In line with the decision of the Consultative Body (Bamus) all factions have agreed that the plenum would be continued tomorrow with the presentation of the views of the factions on the committee`s report," he said.

He said according to PKB the plenary session had already gone according to schedule and was legitimate.(*)
