Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Tuesday held a meeting with Vice President Boediono and a number of cabinet ministers to make sure the administration was continuing to function effectively amid dynamic developments in the political arena.
The impromptu cabinet meeting took place after a House of Representatives (DPR) plenary session to discuss the results of the parliamentary inquiry into the Bank Century case earlier in the day ended in a near brawl among legislators and without a decision.
It was held only to ensure the political events would not affect the normal business of the government, presidential spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha said.
"Indeed the government really wants to remain functioning effectively as it should although we know the dynamic developments could affect the administration`s performance," he said.
The coordination meeting was held at 2 pm, attended among others by Coordinating Minister for Political, Security and Legal Affairs Djoko Suyanto, Coordinating Minister for People`s Welfare Agung Laksono, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Hatta Radjasa and Minister/State Secretary Sudi Silalahi.
After the meeting had lasted one hour, Vice President Boediono and State Intelligence Agency chief Sutanto joined it. The meeting ended at 6pm.
Julian said the meeting did not specifically discuss the Bank Century case.
"As usual, it discussed current issues. In essence, it was to ensure that the government is still running effectively although we know dynamic political events are happening," he said.
Regarding the House plenum, he said the President had not commented on it.
He said the President would give his official response to it in a speech to be delivered soon.
"The President restrained himself not to speak on matters linked to DPR. So hopefully his respons to the handling of the case as well as his view on the dynamic events that have happened will be revealed in his speech later," he said.(*)Editor: Heru
