Colombo (ANTARA News/Asia Pulse) - Over half-a-million tourists are expected to visit Sri Lanka this year as the travel trade bounces back strongly from the effects of the decades long war between the Sri Lankan armed forces and Tamil Tigers that ended May 2009.

Hotels are currently so heavily booked that some are even refusing new reservations till the end of March, officials said.

In January alone, tourist arrivals were up 31.9 per cent from a year ago and authorities expect the total number of visitors this year to increase by 25-30 per cent, prompting international agencies to offer help to modernize tourism infrastructure.
