Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Associate chairman of the Democratic Party Syarief Hasan met with the chairman of the Advisory Board of the Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) at the parliament building here on Monday.

The meeting occurred after Taufiq sent a signal on a policy change in PDIP which has so far taken an opposition stance.

No official statement was issued regarding issues discussed during the meeting.
Hasan however said his party would be comfortable if PDIP would coalesce with it.

Taufiq Kiemas sent a signal to newsmen before receiving Syarief Hasan that PDIP had been tired of being an opposition. "We have lost as an opposition party. After we have lost will we not change," he said.

The husband of former president Megawati Soekarnoputri and current chief of PDIP
said that PDIP would benefit if it would change its political stance from being an opposition party to becoming members of the government`s coalition. "By not becoming an opposition we will get a benefit," he said.

Taufiq Kiemas however said that it would be the congress later that would decide if the party would remain an opposition party or join the coalition."Let us see what the congress would decide," he said.

Hasan Taufic Kiemas that day also met with the chairman of the Regional Representatives Council (DPD), Irman Gusman.

The two met at an "Executive Brief" forum for DPD and People`s Consultative Assembly (MPR) leadership.

The meeting was also attended by economic observers Umar Juoro, Imam Sugema and Faisal Basri.

Irman said that the Executive Brief is a joint activity organized by MPR and DPD for collecting inputs from economists on the projection of the country`s future economy.(*)
