Pontianak (ANTARA News) - West Kalimantan`s Justice and Human Rights office plans to build a special correctional institution for people convicted in drug-related cases.

"We have a plot of land in Pontianak district for the location of the correctional institution," local Justice and Human Rights office spokesman Johanes Sri Trisworo said here on Tuesday.

He said the 27-hectare plot of land for the institution is located at Air Hitam village, or on the Pontianak-Sungai Pinyuh road.

Meanwhile, House of Representatives` Commission-III deputy chairman Azis Syamsuddin said he would propose the budget for the construction of the correctional institution in West Kalimantan.

He said besides the special penitentiary for drug offenders, a number of infrastructures at the West Kalimantan Justice and Human Rights office would be managed.

"For example, the Pontianak Immigration office also needs better management," said the Golkar Party politician.

Azis Syamsuddin said the House Commission-III has also agreed on the funds for the construction of the penitentiary in West Kalimantan.

He said there were 597 prisoners in the correctional institution in Pontianak which has the capacity of only 500 people.

Therefore he said the construction of special penitentiary for drug offenders in the province was urgent.(*)
