Jakarta (ANTARA News) - A fire that ravaged the Senen market in Central Jakarta in the wee hours of Thursday caused an estimated material loss of Rp8.5 billion, a spokesman said.

"The losses consist of Rp3 billion from destroyed buildings and Rp5 billion from burnt merchandise," Djangga Lubis, chief of the city-owned traditional market operator PD Pasar Jaya, said on Thursday.

The fire broke out at 00.30 a.m. and was put out about two-and-a-half hours later.
Police are still looking into the cause of the fire. (*)
