Bandung, W Java (ANTARA News) - A team of doctors at Hasan Sadikin hospital has succeeded in removing 2.4 kg of warts from the body of Dede nicknamed the "tree man" because of his massive bark-like warts, a doctor said.

"The warts we removed from Dede`s left and right hands in the ninth surgery conducted on him weighed a total of 2.4 kg, namely 1.4 kg from his right hand and 0.7 kg from his left hand," the team`s chief, Dr Hardisiswoe Soedjana, said here on Friday.

He said overall, the team had not met with any problem during the ninth operation. "We found no significant problems during the surgery because we already understood Dede`s conditions in previous surgeries," Dr Hardisiwoe said.

Hardisiwoe said that the operation lasted about three hours. "The operation proceeded for about three hours. He was taken to the operation room at 8 am and the operation was finished at 11 am," he added.

The doctor said that the operation was deliberately made shorter so that Dede could feel better soon after the operation.

After the operation, Dede was taken to the Boungenville isolation room at Hasan Sadikin hospital.

Dede (39) had so far undergone nine operations to remove the woody growths that had covered his hands and feet.

His massive warts were first diagnosed in 2008 by a US dermatologist as the result of a combination of the human papilloma virus and genetic disorders which his immune system was unable to fight off. (*)
