Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has been urged to recruit independent investigators, namely those who do not come from public prosecutor`s offices or the police.

The Indonesian Corruption Watch (ICW) said in a press statement made available to ANTARA on Tuesday the anti-graft body should take immediate and concrete steps in recruiting independent investigators as an anticipatory effort.

It said that what it meant by anticipatory steps was an effort to avoid the possibility for case brokers to build communications with certain individuals at the KPK while also maintaining the anti-graft body`s independence.

The matter needed to be taken seriously to ensure that there would be no information leakage in an examination and investigation of a case.

The KPK was also called on to act immediately in restructuring its personnel at the prosecution level to revive the people`s confidence which was now in a critical state.
After all, the KPK was so far being seen by the public as the most reliable instrument to fight corruption.

If it turns out that the KPK was not immune to case brokers, the public trust would gradually decline.

Therefore, the ICW was of the view that the KPK should take immediate and concrete action to preserve public confidence, it said.(*)
