Timika, Papua (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Democratic Party-Struggle (PDIP)-Papua Provincial chapter has again nominated Megawati Soekarnoputri as the party`s top chief.
Chairman of the PDIP-Papua Provincial chapter, Komaruddin Watubun, said here Wednesday Megawati`s leadership had successfully maintained PDIP`s consistent opposition to the government.
That opposition stance remained needed by PDIP, he said adding that all PDIP`s executive board members in the province had solid support for Megawati`s leadership for the 2010-2015 term.
Watubun also urged the party`s elites and cadres not to accept any government`s offer to sit in the cabinet because accepting the offer would just sacrifice PDIP`s interet in the next election.
"We totally reject any political barter of the Bank Century case with the bribery case relating to the selection of Miranda Goeltom as Bank Indonesia (BI) senior deputy governor in 2004," he said.
This time, the Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) was handling the bribery case involving several former members of parliament, including those of the PDIP faction.
They allegedly received bribes relating to the selection of Miranda Goeltom as Bank Indonesia (BI) senior deputy governor in 2004.
"Let the legal process decide if some of our party colleagues were allegedly involved," Watubun said.
The future of Megawati Soekarnoputri`s political career will again be tested in PDIP`s congress due to be held in Bali on April 5-9.
