Tokyo (ANTARA News/Asia Pulse) - Debt-ridden Japan Airlines Corp. (JAL) said Tuesday that it will expand its voluntary retirement program to include pilots in a bid to trim payroll by 5 per cent, or 2,700 people.

Pilots had been spared to date because of their special skills,
but they are now being targeted along with ground staff, flight attendants, maintenance workers and other employees.

JAL is
offering early retirement to more than 1,500 captains at core company Japan Airlines International Co., along with nearly 800 first officers aged 35 and older.
