Seoul (ANTARA News/Asia Pulse) - The South Korean government said today it will invest 20 billion won (US$17.7 million) every year until 2012 to support the development of energy efficient light-emitting diode (LED) products.

The research and development fund is
aimed at helping make thin, flat lighting panels, high output LED chips and related components, the Ministry of Knowledge Economy said.

The plan also aims to support the development of
a globally recognizable product to make inroads into the international lighting market, and the creation of a LED testing and quality evaluation center.
