Tokyo (ANTARA News/Asia Pulse) - Funai Electric Co. (TSE:6839) is moving some assembly procedures for LCD televisions equipped with LED backlights to China in a bid to cut costs and boost its competitiveness.

Beginning as soon as May, the company will
shift the process of creating modules by attaching LED backlights to LCD panels to a partner plant in China's Guangdong Province. The Chinese location will initially assemble panels for small TVs, such as 20-inch models, with plans to begin similar module production for 32-inch and other large sets later.

The electronics manufacturer plans to sell
eight million LCD TVs worldwide in the year ending March 2011, a 50 per cent jump from projections for the current fiscal year.
