Taipei (ANTARA News/CNA) - Taiwan`s major WiMAX operator Global Mobile Corp. will recruit 4,000 users in Taipei City this year to test its 4G WiMAX services as part its efforts to expand its coverage in northern Taiwan, a company executive said Wednesday.
Global Mobile aims to complete 500 base stations in the Taipei area by the end of this year to cover 90 percent of the population in Taipei City and 70 percent of the population in Taipei County, according to Rosemary Ho, chairwoman of the company.
The expansion plan comes on the heels of Global Mobile`s launch of 4G WiMAX services in Hsinchu last year.
At present, nearly 90 percent of 4G WiMAX users in Hsinchu are male, Ho noted, adding that to boost user rate among women, the company hopes to recruit more females to test the service and thereby experience its convenience.
The recruitment of test users has begun and interested residents in the Taipei area may apply online to obtain free 4G wireless broadband service during the test period and a data card valued at NT$3,500 for 4G mobile wireless service, Ho added.
More information about the project is available at http://event.gl.com.tw/taipei.
Global Mobile has also formed strategic alliances with Leadtek Research Inc., KCS Digital Inc. and SysJust Inc. to provide diversified wireless services, including mobile phone TV services on the WiMAX platform which would allow users to watch digital TV on their Android handsets or iPhones, according to Ho.
