Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said the government would plan new pro-people programs to expedite the achievement of people`s welfare.

"Besides evaluating the on-going pro-people programs, we will also think of other working programs in the meeting later that would improve the people`s welfare and expedite local developments," he said when opening a limited meeting on people`s welfare at his office here on Thursday.

The President said he would again hold a second meeting in April to evaluate all programs that have been carried out and plan new programs.

Provincial governors, chiefs of non-ministry state institutions and state-owned companies would be invited to the meeting.

"We have already produced action programs that, let us say, will be implemented in 2010 and put in the Presidential Instruction Number 1 of 2010," he said.

He said to him the implementation of the welfare improvement programs had not yet gone quite well.

"The causes vary. According to district heads, mayors, governors and other parties concerned some are linked to a lack of synergy between the central and local programs," he said.

The President also cited other causes such as poor information campaign among the people and unachieved implementation of central programs in the regions.

"Although much has been achieved I think we can still make improvements so that all the programs would meet the targets and could immediately be felt by the people," he said.

The meeting that day was attended by coordinating minister for political, legal and security affairs Djoko Suyanto, coordinating minister for the economy Hatta Radjasa , coordinating minister for people`s welfare Agung Laksono, health minister Endang Rahayu Sedyaningsih, social affairs minister Salim Segaf, state minister for environment affairs LH Gusti Muhammad Hatta, tourism minister Jero Wacik, minister for administrative reform, EE Mangindaan, education minister Muhammadh Nuh, religious affairs minister Suryadharma Ali, minister of information and communications Tifatul Sembiring, minister for improvement of women`s roles and child protection Linda Gumilar and sports and youth affairs minister Andi Mallarangeng.
