Whirlwind damages dozens of houses in W Java

Ciamis, W Java (ANTARA News) - A whirlwind hit Sindangrasa village, Ciamis sub-district, West Java, on Wednesday damaging at least 20 houses, a resident said.
According to Aco whose house was also damaged, the whirlwind hit the village when local residents were performing their evening prayers.
The villagers panicked when the whirlwind suddenly hit their homes following a few hours of heavy rainfall, he said.
"I was terrified when the whirlwind suddenly passed our village," he said, adding he sustained slight injuries on his right leg.
The whirlwind also toppled dozens of trees but there were no fatalities, he said.
Whirlwinds have hit some parts of Java island during the past few weeks.
In early March, dozens of trees as well as electricity and telephone poles were toppled by a whirlwind that hit Trosobo neighborhood in Sidoarjo district, East Java.
Since the arrival of the rainy season, natural disasters such as floods, landslides and whirlwinds have happened in many parts of Java Island.
Torrential rains in Bandung city recently led to flooding that killed two people. They were identified as Asep Jaja and Sugiri DH Mahari.
On February 23, a landslide that hit the Dewata tea plantation in Tenjolaya village, Pasirjambu subdistrict, Bandung district, killed more than 40 people.
Among the dead victims were a number of the plantation`s tea pickers.
