Medan (ANTARA News) - Deputy Chairman of Commission VII of the House of Representatives (DPR) Effendi Simbolon said the council has urged the government to take over the management of PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Inalum) from the Japanese consortium.
"As the cooperation with the Japanese private consortium in PT INALUM will come to an end in 2013, DPR urged the government to continue the enterprise," Effendi said in Parapat, North Sumatra, Friday.
He said the cooperation with the Japanese consortium lasts for 30 years, and will come to an end in 2013. Under the cooperation agreement, the power to extend or stop the cooperation is in the hands of the Indonesian government.
"We think there will be a bigger potential for a contribution if managed by Indonesia," Effendi said.
In the past, he added, actually PT Inalum did not mean too much in giving a contribution to the income of the state.
Effendi said a state enterprise of consortium of state enterprises could manage the enterprise. The government has only to calculate the assets of the Japanese consortium, and return it.
Effendi also said a government team has already been set up for negotiations with the Japanese side on Inalum. He hoped the Indonesian government would be able to heed the voices of the people wishing to run Inalum by Indonesia itself.(*)Editor: Heru
