Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Friday detained former chief of the Jakarta administration`s legal affairs bureau Journal Effendi Siahaan over an alleged graft case in the production of public service advertisement.

Journal was taken to the Cipinang penitentiary in East Jakarta aboard a prison car at around 08.15 after being grilled for nearly 10 hours.

He told the press that he was a victim of consiperacy by a handful of people who disliked him.

He said they plotted to bring him to justice after he refused to take a bribe of Rp40 billion from Sauri Gading in the purchase of the West Jakarta municipal office.

"Sauri Gading tried to bribe me but I rejected the bribe totaling Rp40 billion. If I accepted the bribe I myself would receive Rp5 billion," he said.

KPK spokesman Johan Budi confirmed that the commission had detained the former chief of the Jakarta administration`s legal affairs bureau on graft charges.

The results of investigation conducted by the KPK suggested that Journal had allegedly received 10 percent of the project worth Rp5.6 billion. As a result, the state suffered Rp3.9 billion in losses. (*)
