Musi Rawas, S Sumatra (ANTARA News) - Police in Musi Rawas, South Sumatra province, arrested a 13-year student on Saturday after shooting his classmate during a fight.

Ranggut Inggrit (13) was shot in the left thigh by Anggar Nopan, both students of state junior high school SMPN 1 in Bangun Rejo in the classroom during a school hour.

The incident began after Ranggut showing a home-made gun to Anggar who later tried to grab it after Ranggut refused to let him hold it leading to a fight that ended with the trigger pulled and the bullet hit Ranggut.

Upon hearing the fire the whole class and the teacher were shocked, seeing the victim crying in pain. Ranggut was then taken to a hospital.

The school`s vice principal confirmed the incident saying he was just outside the class when he heard the shot.When he checked the class he saw the victim crying in pain.

The victim`s mother, Mrs Sukaisih, said she only knew about the incident after the school informed her. She immediately left for the hospital in Lubuklinggau.

The Musi Rawas chief intelligence, Adjunct Commissioner Parulian Pardede said the police was now still questioning Anggar.

He said Anggar said the gun belonged to his friend named Ahmad Edi an elementary school student of Bangung Rejo.

Ahmad Edi entrusted the gun to him who later brought it to school with a purpose of returning it to Ahmad.The police is still investigating the alleged owner of the gun.(*)
