Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Wife of the late General Abdul Haris Nasution, Johana Sunarti Nasution, passed away at the age of 87 years Saturday night at the Gatot Subroto Army hospital, here, after a long treatment at the hospital.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono visited Johana Sunarti Nasution, who was popularly called "Bu Nas" (Mrs Nasution) at her residence in Menteng area here on Sunday morning.

The president on the occasion among others said that Bu Nas had faithfully accompanied her husband, retired Great General Abdul Haris Nasution, a noted figure, the "father" of the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) and a statesman.

In addition, former President BJ Habibie, Vice President Boediono, Minister/State Secretary Sudi Silalahi including Jakarta governor Fauzi Bowo were also seen mourning at the residence where Bu Nas was laid in state.

Bu Nas who was born in Surabaya, East Java on November 1, 1923, was survived by two daughters, namely Hendriyanti Sahara and Ade Irma Suryani, four grandchildren and five great-grand children. Ade Irma Suryani died in the `G30S/PKI` uprising incident in 1965.

Marina, the grand daughter of Bu Nas said that her grandmother was treated at the Army hospital intensive care unit for about a week after suffering from thyroid gland that suppressed her breathing path.

Earlier, Tuti, the hospital official on duty when contacted early Sunday said, Johana Sunarti Nasution died at about 00:00 pm and her body had been washed in the hospital before being taken to be laid in state at her residence at Menteng area in Jakarta.

Her body would be buried in Kalibata heroes cemetery in Jakarta.
