Oslo (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono emphasized the importance of commitment of the world`s leaders with regard to making the Copenhagen agreement implementable.

"The world`s leaders need to support the Copenhagen Accord. We have different views with regard to what has happened in Copenhagen. But apart from that it gave a clear message that we must maintain the momentum," he said in his speech at the Conference on Climate and Forests here on Thursday.

He hoped the working group set up in the meeting in Copenhagen could finish its work before the meeting in Cancun , Mexico, at the end of this year.

President Yudhoyono also hoped that the meeting in Cancun later could produce clear and correct decisions that could be implemented.

"The decision about the mechanism for REDD+ (reduction of emissions from forest destruction and degradation) must be able to make us able to take steps immediately," he said.

He also emphasized the importance of building trust among nations through openness, transparancy and process that involves all parties.

"With the moves we could create conducive conditions to meet the meeting Cancun," he said.

The conference on forests and climate in Oslo discussed steps to support cooperation among nations in the REDD+ framework.

Under the REDD+ program developing countries possessing forests must take steps to conserve forests while developed countries are required to give incentives in the form of funds for helping the developing countries carry out their steps.
