Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Bibit Samat Rianto and Chandra Hamzah, the deputies of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), have no longer signed letters following reopening of the process of their case.
"Pak (Mr) Bibit and Pak Chandra still carry out their duties but all important decisions will be signed by us, me and Pak Haryono," KPK deputy M Jasin said in a statement here on Friday.
He said the move had been agreed upon by all the four KPK deputies. The policy was taken to safeguard the legality of every KPK decision, he said.
Although they would not sign any letter Bibit and Chandra would remain involved in every KPK meeting, he said.
"So we hope Pak Bibit and Pak Chandra would still contribute with ideas to strategic policies," he said.
Jasin hoped the new mechanism would not disrupt KPK operations. He was optimistic assistance from the ranks of deputies, directors and staff would be of great help for the KPK leadership.
The Jakarta High Court in a ruling recently demands the continuation of the process of the alleged case of extortion of Bibit and Chandra.
The court said the case had been built correctly. "The construction of the case is clear and provides no void for the prosecutor`s office to stop its process because of a sociological reason," the court spokesman, Andi Samsan Nganro, said quoting the judges` decision.
With regard to the decision the Attorney General`s Office had filed a request for a judicial review of the decision.
Attorney General Hendarman Supandji said after meeting with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Thursday that the decision had been approved by the President.
Hendarman considered the High Court had made mistakes in deciding over the case.
He however admitted that he actually had enough evidence to process the case but because of sociological reasons he had decided to stop it.
Hendarman made the decision after massive protest from the public who thought the case was made for merely criminalizing the KPK.
Anggodo Widjojo, the suspect who had attempted to bribe the KPK officials, however later filed a pretrial request to the South Jakarta District Court that later ruled in his favor.
The prosecutor`s office later appealed to the High Court but the court only confirmed the District Court`s ruling.
Hendarman Supanji however had said he would not take the case to court yet pending the Supreme Court`s decision on his judicial review request, according to Denny Indrayana, the president`s special staff member here on Friday.
Denny meanwhile also said that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono would not suspend Bibit and Chandra as yet. "(We will) wait for the Supreme Court`s decision. We will see the options. We certainly hope that the decision will be in line with the spirit of corruption eradication," he said.
Denny hoped the Supreme Court would soon issue the decision. He believed the Supreme Court would meet the Attorney General`s Office`s request as it had once met a similar request in connection with the murder case of human rights activist Munir.(*)Editor: Heru
