Surabaya (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is currently studying the suspicious accounts of 21 high ranking police officers.

"We are still studying the accounts and the results have not yet been reported as a team is still studying them," KPK deputy chairman M Jasin said here on Tuesday.

He made the statement after speaking in a dialogue on preventing corruption with a number of university lecturers at the Law Faculty of Surabaya University.

"We cannot as yet present the results of the study because they have not yet been reported," he said.

The case was first reported to KPK by the Indonesian Corruption Watch (ICW) through its investigation division member, Tama S Langkun, who was recently attacked by unknown persons.

In its report the ICW records a huge amount of money kept in the accounts of some high ranking police officers, believed to have received bribes or gratification.

In connection with the case the ICW had asked the police to announce the report on analysis results based upon information from the Financial Transactions Analysis and Reporting Agency (PPATK).

National police chief General Bambang Hendarso Danuri has pledged he would make the report on the suspicious accounts of 21 high ranking police officers known to the public.

He has also said that the police officers concerned have been questioned and the results of the questioning would be made transparent.

"But please do not only report the accounts of the 21 police officers but also the 1100 problematic accounts of the public," National Police spokesman Inspector General Edward Aritonang said. (*)
