E Java governor observes world environment day

Malang, E Java (ANTARA News) - East Java Governor Soekarwo opened a function marking World Environment Day at Selorejo dam in Malang district, East Java, on Monday.
East Java was one of the best provinces in Indonesia in terms of conserving the environment, he said in his address.
The other provinces were Bali, Gorontalo, Central Kalimantan, and West Sumatra, he said quoting a news report in an environmental magazine.
In recognition of its success in conserving the environment, the central government had awarded a "green" car to East Java, he said.
On the occasion, the governor also presented Adiwiyata environmental awards from the Environment Ministry to 42 schools in the province.
In addition, he also presented awards from the provincial government to 12 people for their remarkable services in conserving the environment.
