Ambon, Maluku (ANTARA News) - It is time for the youngsters in Maluku to work persistently at film making because they have talent and potential to do so.

Jefry Pattiasina, the initiator of short-film making workshop, said here on Monday that the government, private parties, and national film lovers should eye talented Maluku youngsters to make new films.

The workshop on short movies on Maluku Younger Generation 2010, participated in by some 50 groups of students from 24 High Schools in Ambon will last from Monday to Wednesday (July 26-28, 2010).

Organized by PT Surya Indrantara (Cine Surya Production), the workshop is intended to explore and develop the interests and talents of Maluku`s youngsters, especially the students, in the world of arts.

Jefry said Maluku Vice Governor Said Assagaff and Ambon Mayor Jopy Papilaja gave their positive appreciation to the workshop and decided to be the juries of honor.

Meanwhile, organizing committee spokesman Cak Saimima said the workshop was strategic to arouse the creativity of the students to make Maluku, especially Ambon city, wel known not only as a singer fields but also as the province whose people are capable and talented in making new films.

Saimima admitted that the workshop, the first of its kind to be organized in Ambon, attracted the interest of younger generation especially the students in Ambon.

He said the 56 groups of students from 24 schools also entered 106 story ideas to be selected by the jurors from Jakarta to determine six best groups to participate in the workshop.

The jurors are Anggun Priambodo (a film director), Sidi Saleh (director/sinematographer), Titin Wattimena (script writer), Rico Marpaung (art director), Joseph Anggi (director/producer) and Agung Santosa (director).

"The selection result would be announced on July 21, 2010 and the bests six story ideas would be used to make a short movie with 10-minute duration," Saimima said, adding that the workshop was conducted as part of international marine event of Sail Banda 2010.

He said members of the selected group would be divided into film directors, cameramen, art directors, and casts.

Each group will be accompanied by one mentor who helps develop the story ideas into a short movie.

"The final result for the film will be evaluated by the jurors namely Maluku Vice Governor Said Assagaff, Ambon Mayor Jopi papilaja as an honorary jury, Nicolas Saputra, and Pevita Pearce," Saimima said.
