Pontianak, West Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - The government has appointed West Kalimantan province to host the commemoration of Peace Day this year, a spokesman said.
The event would be held in November instead of September as normally scheduled, Head of the Social Bureau of the Regional Secretariat of the West Kalimantan Provincial Government Sri Jumiadatin said on Monday.
The Coordinating Ministry for People`s Welfare as the event`s organizer had no problem with the postponement, she said.
She said the president or vice president, a number of relevant ministers, ambassadors and governors were expected to attend the event.
"It is the Coordinating Ministry for People`s Welfare which will invite them," she said.
The event would take place in Pontianak and Singkawang, she said.
An informal request to host the event was made before May on the ground a social conflict once hit West Kalimantan, she said.
She said a number of activities, including seminar and cultural parade would highlight the event.
During his stay in West Kalimantan, the president was expected to inaugurate a number of national scale projects, including roads parallel to the Indonesia-Malaysia borders, a border crosser check point in Sambas and the country`s largest organic fertilizer plant in Singkawang.
Peace Day 2009 was held in Ambon, Maluku.
