Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Police Chief Investigator Com. Gen. Ito Sumardi said his side had named eight suspects in illegal gas injection case from subsidized 3kg gas canisters to 12kg gas cylinders.

"We have named eight main suspects but we believe there are more of them who have been involved in the gas injection case," Ito said before attending a hearing with the House of Representatives (DPR)`s Commission VII for energy affairs, here on Monday.

He said that the suspects had been detained at the Police Headquarters. "They have been held. The suspects came from Bantar Gebang, Bekasi, Jakarta and West Java," he said.

In connection with the frequent 3kg gas canister blasts, Ito, who is head of the Police Headquarters` Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim), said that based on the results of police investigation the main cause of the blast was substandard canister accessories.

"No suspects have already been named. Frequent cylinder explosions have been caused by accessory problems such as bad pipes and regulators," he said.

Police chief investigators said that they were cooperating with the Indonesian National Standardization (SNI) agency to further investigate canister blast cases.
