Yogyakarta (ANTARA News) - State electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) has set itself a target of achieving an international standard of power cuts by November 30, 2011.
"By the end of November 2011, annual power cuts across Indonesia must meet an international standard," PLN President Director Dahlan Iskan said after attending the commemoration of the World Hepatitis Day at Dr Sardjito Hospital here on Wednesday.
Under the international standard, power cuts were six to nine times per year with each of them having a maximum duration of two hours, he said.
"Currently, power cuts in Java are twice as much as the international standard," he said.
PLN no longer imposed alternate power cuts as power needs in and outside Java had been met, he said.
"If there is a blackout it is something normal. But actually it is not caused by alternate power cut," he said.
The causes of the blackout varied, he said adding it could be caused by broken electrical cable or exploding voltage regulator.
He said the company had made every effort to ensure adequate power supplies by repairing old power plants with a capacity of 200 megawatts and building 140 thermal power plants.
Hopefully, all the 140 thermal power plants would be operational by the end of 2011 or early 2012, he said.
