Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian government is imposing a moratorium on the dispatch of Indonesian domestic helpers (TKI) to Jordan until the problems faced by Indonesian migrant workers in that country are settled, a manpower ministry spokesman said.
"We have temporarily stopped the sending of Indonesian workers until the problems of Indonesian workers in the domestic sector are overcome," Manpower Ministry`s Chief Public Relations Officer Budi Hartawan said here on Thursday.
The problems of Indonesian workers in that country that need to be solved are the settlement of TKIs now still staying in emergency accommodations, their placement, the machanism to protect them and meet their health care needs.
The ministry of manpower has sent circulars to various sides on the temporary stoppage of worker dispatches to Jordan. The circulars were sent among others to the minister of foreign affairs, the minister of law and human rights, the minister of health, the national police chief, all provincial governors and executives of manpower supplier firms association (PPTKIS).
The distribution of the circulars was part of the efforts to help increase services for the placement and protection of Indonesian workers in Jordan.
At present there are 238 problematic Indonesian workers at the boarding house of the Indonesian embassy in Jordan. The problem of these workers is still under settlement process.
"Most of them are domestic helpers who need protection," Budi said.
The Indonesian government and Jordanian government have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the placement and protection of Indonesian workers in Jordan on June 27, 2009.
"But the MoU has not yet been implemented in accordance with the expectation," he said.(*)Editor: Heru
