Ambon, Maluku (ANTARA News) - At least 500 scouts across the country stage coastal and a marine salvage mission in Ambon from July 29 to August 3, 2010.
The mission as part of the ongoing international marine event of Sail Banda 210 dubbed `Save Our Seas and Coastal Area from Pollution", takes place at Martha Alfons Beach in Ruma-Tiga village, Teluk Ambon sub-district.
"At least 500 scouts across the country take part in the mission, intended to save the seas and coastal areas," organizing committee spokesman A Sinanu said here on Friday.
Sinanu said the scouts participating in the activity would also take part in a training on sea accident management and regional cultural arts performances.
"Various activities such as cultural art performance, scouting skills, marine environmental care, prevention of sea accidents, coastal clean-up, and mangrove trees planting will be conducted in the scout mission as part of Sail Banda 2010," Sinanu said.
Meanwhile, Maluku Scout spokesman Matheis Radjawane said the scout mission activities this year was different from those in the past because it was conducted as part of Sail Banda event.
"The scouts activities this year have something to do with seas or have water-related nuance," Radjawane said.
He explained that the activities were directed to marine-related issues to cultivate sea loving sense among the younger generation.
"Conserving marine and coastal areas is not just a slogan because we practice it in a real way," Radjawane said.
According to Maluku Vice Governor Said Assagaff, the Scout mission in Ambon this year was the manifestation of the scouts` dedication to the community.
Assagaff said the Scout was an inseparable part of the national education system to create national cadres who have spiritual, mental, moral, intellectual, and emotional qualities.(*)
