Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Bank BNI has since 2000 provided credits worth Rp2 trillion for business activities in the forestry sector, its business director, Krishna Suparto, said.

"Although the amount of its credits to the forestry sector is relatively smaller compared with that it provided for other sectors, BNI as a state financing institution has at least been focusing on the financing of the agribusiness sector," Krishna Suparto said here over the weekend.

"For the agribusiness sector, we have channeled about Rp5 trillion and Rp2 trillion for the forestry sector," he said.

The funds were distributed to companies doing integrated business in the forestry sector, from nursery and planting to plywood and pulp-paper business in the upstream forestry sector, he said.

"For the financing of the forestry sector we are providing credits in an integrated way with timber, furniture, pulp and paper industries and this scheme will be continued. Credits distributed so far have amounted to Rp2 trillion," he said.

He said BNI`s credit growth for the agribusiness sector is about 10 - 12 percent per annum. For forestry industries the average credits provided for the forestry sector is about Rp500 billion a year. (*)
