Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province (ANTARA News) - The government will invite 82 foreign ambassadors and diplomats to attend the commemoration of the 30th World Food Day 2010 which will be held on Lombok Island, NTB, on October 16.

"It was agreed at the preparatory meeting of the World Food Day 2010 commemoration that we will organize a diplomatic tour for around 82 ambassadors," Pending Dadih Permana, head of the NTB provincial agricultural office, said here Saturday.

Based on a decision of Agriculture Minister Suswono, Lombok was chosen to be the venue of the national event of the World Food Day, he said.

Apart from attending the function, the foreign invitees will be taken on a tour of NTB`s tourist objects and economic centers.

The commemoration will be centered in Puyung village, Central Lombok District, Lombok Island.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, the World Food Day 2010`s theme will be "United against Hunger".

The FAO said that with an estimated increase of 105 million hungry people in 2009, there are now 1.02 billion malnourished people in the world, meaning that almost one sixth of all humanity is suffering from hunger.

The UN body has declared 16th October as World Food Day which is observed in remembrance of launching of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 1945.

In November 1979, The First World Food Day (WFD) was launched by FAO`s Member Countries on its 20th General Conference.(*)
