Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has called against cheating and tricks in politics with regard to improving democracy.
"Politics must not be for cheating for personal interest. That is far from being ethical," he said in reponse to a newsman`s question on whether there is an opportunity to make changes in the constitution to extend his presidential term during the launching of First Lady Ani Yudhoyono`s biography titled "The Wing Flaps of a Soldier`s Daughter" here on Saturday.
President Yudhoyono said the rule that had become the basis for democracy in Indonesia must not be changed because it could hurt efforts to develop democracy since the reform movement in 1998.
"Some asked if the rule could be changed, I said it could not because it would be against reform and damage what we have accomplished together," he said.
The head of state said after 2014 he would resign and return to the community and help the next president and government.
President Yudhoyono also said his wife Ani Yudhoyono did not have slightest intention or plan to run for president.
"Three months ago somebody asked if there was any idea for Mrs Ani to run for president. I said and my wife said that she had no such plan. We will be grateful enough if we could finish our duty until 2014 and have agreed to become common community members," he said.
President Yudhoyono said after he finished his second term in 2014 he and his wife wished to set up a library to help the country and nation.
The launching event was attended by Vice President Boediono and his wife Herawati, Mrs Mufida Kalla, cabinet ministers and invitees.(*)Editor: Jafar M Sidik
