Rice prices in Jakarta`s Cipinang wholesales market increasing

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Rice prices at Jakarta`s Cipinang Rice Wholesales Market are now showing an upward trend in the face of the Ramadhan fasting month which begins next week.
"Rice prices have begun to show an increasing trend since early this month. Although it is not too significant, yet the price increase has caused unrest among the public," Suminta, a staff member of PT Food Station Tjipinang Jaya`s data management center, said here on Tuesday.
The types of rice whose prices have been on the rise included the Cianjur Kepala, Cianjur Slyp, Ketan Putih and Ketan Hitam.
On Tuesday, the price of Cianjur Kepala rose to Rp8,750 per kg from Rp8,500 per kg on Monday, Cianjur Slyp to Rp8,000 from Rp7,800, Ketan Putih to Rp11,750 from Rp11,500 and Ketan Hitam to Rp13,750 from Rp13,500 per kg.
However, not all types of rice had their prices increased.'
Those having stable prices included the Stara type which was sold at Rp8,200 per kg, the Saigon Rp7,600, the IR-42 Rp9,000, Muncul I Rp6,700 and IR-64 at Rp6,750 per kg.
Rice stocks at the Cipinang wholesales market came from various parts of Java.
"About 80 percent of the rice stocks came from West Java, 15 percent from Central Java and 5 percent came from other warehouses around Jakarta," Suminta said.(*)Editor: B Kunto Wibisono
